In large part, this mismatch is because we do not pay sufficient attention to the forces that influence health. Place, power, money, race, the past, compassion, and other forces are inevitable drivers of health, and we need to talk about them all if we are to improve our health. Galea, Dean and Robert A. Knox Professor at Boston University School of Public Health, is a renowned physician, epidemiologist, and author. He has been named one of Time magazine’s epidemiology innovators and listed as one of the “World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds.” His latest book, Healthier: Fifty Thoughts on the Foundations of Population Health, has been called “the book everyone interested in health must read.” A recipient of numerous awards and honors, Galea holds a medical degree from the University of Toronto and graduate degrees from Harvard University and Columbia.
