The NIH Director's Wednesday Afternoon Lecture Series
Humanity's relation to the rest of life can be summarized as follows. In the past several years, scientists have found the biosphere to be richer in biodiversity than ever before conceived. Second, that biodiversity, which took over 3 billion years to evolve, is being eroded at an accelerating rate by human activity. Third, the loss is going to inflict a heavy price in wealth, security, and spirit if not abated. And finally, solutions to the overall problem exist, and in a still local and piecemeal way, implemented.
