The Neuropathological Diagnosis of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE): Next Steps (Day 1)

Wednesday, November 6, 2019, 8:30:00 AM, 9 hours.

Description: Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) is a devastating neurodegenerative disease of unknown origin and with poorly defined risk factors, pathological characteristics, and incidence rates. The purpose of this workshop is to determine the strategies, next steps, and approaches needed to overcome barriers for developing consensus criteria for the neuropathological diagnosis of CTE. Previously, NINDS has sponsored two CTE Neuropathology Consensus Conferences. This workshop is intended to bring the key CTE neuropathology investigators together to (1) assess the state of science for the neuropathology, (2) present the range of approaches being used to advance CTE research, (3) provide a scientific framework for focusing future research, (4) potentially develop benchmarks for assessing progress in the understanding of CTE, and (5) outline a scientifically driven strategy for future Consensus Conferences.
