Description:	NHGRI DIR Genome Seminar The Young laboratory studies super-enhancers (also known as stretch enhancers), which are large clusters of transcriptional enhancers that drive high-level expression of key cell identity genes. For many diseases, trait-associated sequence variation is especially enriched in the super-enhancers of disease-relevant cell types. Furthermore, the Young lab has found that cancer cells acquire super-enhancers at oncogenes and other genes important to tumor pathogenesis. In tumor cells, super-enhancer-driven oncogene expression can be exceptionally vulnerable to drugs that target transcriptional cofactors, suggesting new approaches to cancer therapy. Dr. Young’s lecture will describe recent results that further illuminate the roles of super-enhancers in control of cell identity and disease.
