However, the application of proteomics in this field is fraught with challenges that span the initial stages of experimental design to the final steps of data analysis. I will discuss recent work done by our group to support investigators in NIAID’s Laboratory of Bacteriology including analysis of salivary glands from the tick Ixodes scapularis and on the bacteria Rickettsia rickettsii. These case studies will illustrate the considerations our group has found necessary for successful application of proteomics to these studies and how these are relevant in other vectors systems.
