Description:	Dr. Gu leads the NINDS Spatial Navigation and Memory Unit, where her research is focused on the neural basis of spatial navigation and memory. Her lab's ultimate goal is to uncover the fundamental principle of spatial cognition and the cause of related neurological disorders. The title of her talk is "What and How Do We Remember? The Neural Basis of Spatial Memory." Dr. Zaghloul is a senior investigator in the NINDS Functional Neurosurgery Section, where he researches the activation of cortical networks during memory encoding and recall primarily in a population of epilepsy patients enrolled in clinical trials at the NIH Clinical Center. The title of his complementary talk is "Surgery for Drug Resistant Epilepsy: Insights for Memory." The Demystifying Medicine Series, jointly sponsored by FAES and NIH, includes presentations on pathology, diagnosis, and therapy in the context of major disease problems and current research. Primarily directed toward PhD students, clinicians and program managers, this series is designed to help bridge the gap between advances in biology and their application to major human diseases. Each session includes clinical and basic science components presented by NIH staff and invitees. All students, trainees, fellows, and staff are welcome to participate.
