About the Session: PCORI Executive Director Dr. Nakela Cook, will discuss the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute's approach to the funding of health research, highlighting its commitment to advancing health equity through the meaningful engagement of patients and communities throughout the research process. She will share lessons learned from PCORI's approach to patient and community engagement, as captured in its recently refreshed engagement rubric - the Foundational Expectations for Partnerships in Research. She will also touch on PCORI's focus on the implementation of study results in ways that reach the patients and communities they are intended to benefit. Through these examples, Dr. Cook will highlight the shared purpose of PCORI and NHLBI’s Center for Translation Research and Implementation Science (CTRIS). The lecture will be followed by a panel discussion on advancing health equity through community-engaged research. The panel includes Dr. Cook (PCORI), Dr. Liz Cohn (CUNY) who will be talking about the soon-to-be released third edition of the seminal text on ‘Principles of Community Engagement’, as well as the Lead Principal Investigators of the Community Engagement Alliance Consultative Resource (CEACR), Dr. Mylynda Massart (UPitt) and Al Richmond (Community Campus Partnerships for Health) who will share lessons learned around meaningful community engagement in research. The panel discussion will conclude with a Q&A session moderated by Dr. Maliha Ilias from NHLBI.
