Description:	Ensuring the future of U.S. competitiveness and innovation in biomedical research is of utmost importance to NIH. A new Advisory Committee to the NIH Director (ACD) Working Group was recently established to address growing concerns about the postdoctoral training system and recruiting qualified postdoctoral candidates in the future. The goal of this working group is to explore the status of the postdoctoral training system, identify and understand critical factors and issues relating to this perceived decline in the number of postdoctoral fellows in academia, and provide recommendations to address those factors. The working group hosted four public virtual listening sessions to get input from the extramural research community on specific themes.
