||COVID-19 Lecture Series
Prof. Stern is a faculty member of the Shmunis School of Biomedicine and Cancer Research, Tel Aviv University, Israel. Her group studies the evolutionary arms race of viruses and their hosts. They use a highly multidisciplinary approach spanning evolutionary theory, computational biology, and "wet" lab experimental evolution.
This past year, the Stern lab has traced the waning effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines and has tracked the evolution of SARS-CoV-2 variants and vaccine-breakthrough infections in Israel. For her NIH presentation, Stern will talk about the current state of the real-time sequencing and viral host dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern. She will further discuss immunology, escape and SARS-CoV-2 evolution in the vaccine breakthrough infections.
