Description:	COVID-19 Scientific Interest Group Dr. Simon is a professor of psychiatry and director of the Anxiety and Complicated Grief Program at NYU Langone Health in New York. She joined NYU in 2016 upon a distinguished 20-year research career at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, where she specialized in the clinical investigation and treatment of panic disorder, social anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and complicated grief. This presentation will focus on the impact of the COVID pandemic and exposure to COVID-related deaths on mental health with a focus on anxiety, stress, trauma, and loss. Topics covered will include a discussion of the pandemic as a major life stressor; what is known about its impact on stressor-related conditions; COVID pandemic-specific factors that increase risk for negative mental health outcomes after death or loss exposures; and risk factors and approaches to support mental wellness after death of a loved one. In addition, some recommendations and considerations for supporting mental wellness and addressing the mental health impact of the pandemic will be discussed.
