Description:	The conference showcases a decade of federally-funded research advances in understanding health risks, societal burden, and treatment options associated with sleep deficiency and sleep disorders in women and families. Stakeholder discussion panels will identify actionable new directions and areas in which research is needed. This conference will 1) highlight federally funded research advances, 2) stimulate translation of significant recent research advances through public presentations and 3) identify critical gaps/barriers to implementation. This event will summarize current research establishing the national burden of sleep deficiency, gender-specific health risks (insomnia, CVD, dementias, metabolic disorders), and the findings from an array of initiatives examining the role of sleep deficiency in health and SES disparities of women across the lifespan. The conference is a collaborative partnership led by the NHLBI (NCSDR), the NIH Office of Research on Women’s Health, and the HHS Office of Women’s Health, participating members of the trans NIH Sleep Research Coordinating Committee and other Federal agencies (CDC, DoD, DoT). The conference addresses NCSDR legislative mandate (42 USC 285b-7) to disseminate and coordinate sleep disorders research and educational across NIH and the Federal government.
