Description:	The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) presents the Integrative Medicine Research Lecture series. The series provides overviews of the current state of research and practice involving complementary health therapies, and explores perspectives on the emerging discipline of integrative medicine. Richard A. Deyo, M.D., M.P.H, is the Kaiser Permanente Professor of Evidenced-Based Family Medicine in the Department of Family Medicine at Oregon Health and Science University. Dr. Deyo will discuss the results of his research, which suggest that complementary health approaches, such as spinal manipulation, acupuncture, and massage, have benefits at least equal to conventional care for back pain, but perhaps with different mechanisms and for different patients.
