Description:	In this workshop, researchers and thought leaders will present their perspectives on major facets of the epidemiologic enterprise in the following areas: evolution of cancer epidemiology and opportunities for major impact on public health and clinical practice in the next 12 years methods and technologies ready for use in population science construction and maintenance of representative cohorts needed to study determinants of the transition from health to disease and related outcomes use of epidemiology to influence and complement randomized clinical trials for filling evidentiary gaps epidemiologic approaches for rapid and ongoing integration of knowledge emerging from basic, clinical and population sciences For each broad topic, a panel of experts with diverse perspectives will offer a very brief assessment of the main challenges and most attractive opportunities. Moderators will lead active discussions among the panelists and the participants. At the end of the meeting, a general discussion with all participants will help clarify and prioritize 12 major recommendations from the meeting that would enhance the contribution of epidemiology in the next 12 years and the action items that are needed to occur in the next 12 months. The product of the meeting will be a peer reviewed scientific publication and an epidemiology manifesto that may/could inform future research directions and potentially funding opportunities.
