HE WAS THE N.I.H. DIRECTOR OF LABORATORIES AND CLINICS FROM 1960 TO 1968 UNDER THE LEADERSHIP MUCH JAMES SHANNON, LEGENDARY N.I.H. DIRECTOR. THERE WAS AN EXPANSION IN THE SIZE OF THE INTRAMURAL RESEARCH PROGRAM AND IN THE 1960s WERE IF FOUR NOBEL LAUREATES WORKING AT THE N.I.H. AT THE SAME TIME. IT WAS AN AMAZING PERIOD. THE LECTURE RECOGNIZES A SCIENTIST WHO SIMPLY NIC EXEMPLIFIES EXCELLENCE. THEY ARE VETTED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND MOVED FORWARD FOR THE DIRECTOR TO CONSIDER.
