Description:	10TH Annual Advances in Cancer Prevention Lecture This keynote lecture is part of the Summer Curriculum in Cancer Prevention and is sponsored by the Cancer Prevention Fellowship Program, a structured postdoctoral training program in the Center for Cancer Training at the National Cancer Institute. The goal of this program is to provide a strong foundation for physicians and scientists to train in the field of cancer prevention and control. Dr. Olopade is an internationally renowned leader in the field of clinical cancer genetics at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. She is the Director of the Cancer Risk Clinic, Associate Dean of Global Health, and Professor with the Human Genetic Department and the Section of Hematology Oncology. Her research has focused on why women of African descent tend to get breast cancer earlier, and with greater severity than their United States and European counterparts. Dr. Olopade has conceptualized ground breaking discoveries about breast cancer through an interdisciplinary approach, leading to the development of treatment plans based on individual risk assessment for breast cancer patients on a case by case basis. Dr. Olopade has received numerous honors and awards which include: James S. McDonnell Foundation Scholar Award, the Doris Duke Distinguished Clinical Scientist Award, MacArthur Fellowship “Genius” Award and Walter L. Palmer Distinguished Service Professorship. Most recently Dr. Olopade was inducted into the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences.
