Recent findings suggest that the relationship between age and cancer incidence -- and, indeed, the incidence of many age-related diseases -- is not simply a matter of time. Rather, some of the powerful mechanisms that evolved to keep cancer at bay may, at advance ages, fuel age-related pathology.
