Description: Information provided from the Human Genome Project, as well as the rapid advancement of enabling molecular technologies, have provided a foundation for new approaches to unravel the mysteries of many diseases. In particular, genetic and genomic information is allowing unprecedented insights into the aberrant functions of overexpressed, repressed or dysregulated genes in many disease settings, and allowing researchers to interrogate and identify specific molecular mechanisms associated with disease causation and progression. These new insights into the molecular etiology of disease are now being rapidly exploited to provide new targets for development of new therapeutic and/or prevention strategies.
