The drug has proven to be effective in treating numerous cancer types\, including ovarian\, breast\, cervical\, and lung cancers. Taxol is among the most affordable and best-selling chemotherapy drugs\, with annual sales over $1 billion.\n\n Horwitz\, the Rose C. Falkenstein Chair in Cancer Research at Einstein\, was among the first to study the anticancer properties of Taxol in the late 1970s. She discovered that Taxol was able to bind to a cell's microtubule assembly and slow cell division and growth\, blocking the segregation of chromosomes. More recently she has investigated Taxol drug resistance. On the clinical side\, Lee\, an NIH–Lasker Clinical Research Scholar\, is a principal investigator on several ongoing phase 1 and 2 studies at the NIH Clinical Center involving olaparib (PARP inhibitor) in combination with paclitaxel and other biologic agents.\n\nThe Demystifying Medicine Lecture Series is designed to help bridge the gap between advances in biology and their applications to major human diseases. The lectures include presentations of patients\, pathology\, diagnosis\, and therapy in the context of major diseases and current research. All clinicians\, trainees including fellows\, medical students\, Ph.D. students\, and other healthcare and research professionals are welcome to attend. \n\nFor more information go to 'https://demystifyingmedicine.od.nih.gov'>https://demystifyingmedicine.od.nih.gov X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:\n\n
