Dr. Brunet, an NIH grantee, is the Michele and Timothy Barakett Professor of Genetics and co-director of the Paul F. Glenn Center for the Biology of Aging at Stanford University. She is interested in the molecular mechanisms of aging and longevity, with a particular emphasis on the nervous system. The Brunet lab is focused on understanding the complexities of aging and rejuvenation and uses model organisms with diverse lifespans: worms, killifish, and mice. Lab researchers are interested in identifying the mechanisms underlying aging and the pathways involved in regulating aging in response to external stimuli, including the availability of nutrients.
Dr. Brunet will present her lab’s work on the regulation of brain aging and rejuvenation, notably the role of the immune system. She will discuss how her lab pioneered the naturally short-lived African killifish as a new model to identify principles underlying vertebrate aging.
