Description: The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) has pioneered research on the health effects of chemicals that interfere with normal hormone function, or endocrine disrupting chemicals, for over 25 years. This research began with the endocrine-disrupting effects of the drug diethylstilbestrol (DES), and currently studies how chemicals including dioxins, polychlorinated biphenyls, pesticides like DDT, and plastic-related chemicals like phthalates may affect health. This event will summarize current scientific knowledge, explore how this knowledge has been applied to safer practices, and consider what research is needed next. This event is part of the 50th anniversary celebration of NIEHS.
