Description:	On 21 November, 2014, Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) held an open public workshop with the aim of fostering an open discussion on the scientific and clinical considerations associated with the development of Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI) devices for patients with paralysis and amputation. CDRH plans to use this information to develop regulatory considerations that will promote innovation while maintaining appropriate patient protections. The outcome of this meeting has been published recently in the Journal of Neural Engineering (http://dx.doi.org/10.1088/1741-2560/13/2/023001). The report concluded that addressing challenges identified by the BCI community (and discussed in the consensus report) will require the involvement of all stakeholders. The proposed one-day workshop, immediately following the Neural Interfaces Conference in Baltimore, will focus on the issues of standardization, modularity and interoperability of BCI device technologies. We invite the BCI community to participate at this meeting to assist in the development of standards for BCI devices to ultimately accelerate the translation of these devices for consumers.
