NIH 2014 Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Observance
Theme: “Diverse Leadership + Expanding Opportunity: An Imperative for America”
Career development session on preparing and writing competitive essays to apply to Senior Executive Services positions. Our featured presenter is Steve Shih, J.D., who leads the office in managing the overall Federal personnel program relating to the SES and other senior professionals (i.e., Senior Level, SL, and Scientific and Professional, ST.)
Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is a time to reflect on the endured periods of discrimination and broken agreements AAPI’s have overcome throughout history. It is also a time to celebrate the successes and influences Asian American and Pacific Islanders have made to this nation. The observance was signed into law by President Carter on March 28, 1979 and first observed on May 4, 1979. In 1990, “Asian/Pacific American Heritage Week” was expanded to Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
