Description: After more than 40 years at the NIH and FDA, Dr. Stephen Feinstone retired from the Federal Government in September 2012. A symposium on the History of Viral Hepatitis in honor of his retirement was organized at the NIH-campus, Bethesda Maryland. Dr. Robert Purcell, Chief, Hepatitis Viruses Section, Laboratory of Infectious Diseases, NIAID, NIH presented a talk entitled "The Golden age of hepatitis research and the Golden age of Stephen Feinstone." Dr. Jay Hoofnagle, Director, Liver Disease Research Branch, Division of Digestive Diseases and Nutrition, NIDDK, NIH presented a talk entitled "Steve Feinstone and Me: Hepatitis Research from 1971 to 2012." Dr. John Gerin, Emeritus Professor, Georgetown University presented a talk entitled "The Rockville Lab and its Contributions to the NIAID's Viral Hepatitis Program." Dr. Charles Rice, Professor, Scientific and Executive Director Center for the Study of Hepatitis C, The Rockefeller University presented a talk entitled "Yellow fever meets hepatitis C: How a phone call from Steve changed my life." A pre-recorded presentation entitled "Steve Feinstone, a jaundice view!" by Dr. Ian Gust, Professorial Fellow, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, University of Melbourne was played for the Audience. Finally, Dr. Stephen Feinstone, Chief, Laboratory of Hepatitis Research, CBER, FDA provided the concluding remarks.
