Description:	Connective tissue forms a body-wide network whose role in musculoskeletal health and disease is gaining increasing attention. In particular, connective tissue is emerging as a potential contributor to musculoskeletal pain as well as a target for therapies including yoga, massage and acupuncture. This talk will present recent evidence on connective tissue pathology associated with low back pain and on the effect of stretching on pain and inflammation. Dr. Helene M. Langevin received a medical degree from McGill University, followed by a post doctoral research fellowship at the Medical Research Council Neurochemical Pharmacology Unit in Cambridge, England. Dr. Langevin completed her residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Endocrinology/Metabolism both at Johns Hopkins Hospital, in Baltimore, MD. She is the Principal Investigator of three NIH-funded studies investigating the role of connective tissue in chronic pain, acupuncture and manual therapies.
