Description: To accelerate the development of rapid HIV-1 viral load assay system(s) for diagnostic, clinical monitoring and vaccine research applications. Diagnostically, simplified detection of HIV virus could be helpful in identifying acute HIV-1, in diagnosing infection in infants, and in identifying persons who become infected after receiving an HIV vaccine. Viral load quantification is also essential to monitor the progression of HIV disease, the effectiveness of antiretroviral therapy, and simplified assays are especially critical in resource-limited settings.
