||Dr. Ibanez’s lab investigates the functions of growth factors and their receptors in the nervous system, with emphasis on signalling mechanisms, defined in a broad sense so as to encompass both extracellular and intracellular processes. They focus their current investigations on three distinct families of ligands: the neurotrophins, the GDNF ligand family, and the TGF-beta superfamily, and their respective receptor systems. The approach is technically very broad, but dominated by cellular and molecular biology studies, ranging from production of recombinant proteins for structural determination, site-directed mutagenesis and receptor binding, signal transduction studies, primary neuron cultures and microinjection, to overexpression studies in transgenic mice.
