Struggles over the teaching of evolution in the United States have intensified in recent years, making evolution a political issue in many states, and generating high-profile court cases. Dr. Miller will examine the scientific and political content of these attacks on evolutionary science, and will suggest that this is a moment of both great peril and great opportunity for the American scientific research community.
Kenneth Miller is Professor of Biology at Brown University. He is a cell biologist, and chairs the Education Committee of the American Society for Cell Biology. He serves as an advisor on life sciences to the News Hour, a daily PBS television program on news and public affairs.
