Description: The International HapMap Consortium announces the publication of a comprehensive catalog of human genetic variation at a press conference during the American Society of Human Genetics Convention in Salt Lake City.

The International HapMap Project was a three-year project that spanned six countries and involved the work of more than 200 researchers, resulting in a haplotype map - or HapMap - that will help scientists explore the root causes of common diseases and lead to better diagnosis, treatment and prevention.
