Description:	NIH Consensus Development Conference Despite advances in early detection and effective treatment, cancer remains one of the most feared diseases, due not only to its association with death but with disability. Among the most common side effects of cancer and treatments for cancer are pain, depression, and fatigue. It is estimated that as many as 90% of patients will experience pain in the course of their illness. Between 20 - 40% will become depressed and a growing number will have fatigue that may persist even after treatment ends. Often these symptoms occur in combination.
