| Abstract: | (CIT): The long-term objective of the "Improving Public Health Grey Literature Access for the Public Health Workforce" project is to provide the public health workforce with improved access to high quality, relevant public health grey literature reports, based on the premise that such access has the potential to positively impact the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of planning, conducting, and evaluating public health interventions. To accomplish this goal, we are building a web-based system that collects relevant reports on chronic diseases, then filters and evaluates the reports to ensure high quality, and processes them with Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques to produce succinct and informative model summaries. We then provide a search capability that enables Public Health practitioners to search using naturally-phrased queries, and quickly scan the model summaries to facilitate selection of reports that most closely match his or her particular information need. Now midway through the project, we have a fully integrated system that crawls the entire web, including the hidden web, where most of the grey literature documents reside but are not indexed by current web search engines either because of their large size or because they are not considered commercial enough to be of interest to search engines. |
