Description:	NIH Health Disparities Seminar Series Dr. Peter Hotez, an internationally-recognized clinician and investigator in neglected tropical diseases and vaccine development, will be the featured speaker for the July 2011 NIH Health Disparities Seminar Series. Dr. Hotez will discuss neglected infections of poverty --an underappreciated health challenge confronting communities in Appalachia, the Mississippi Delta, Louisiana, and the U.S. Mexico Border. In his presentation, he will also outline a national response encompassing increased surveillance and the development of new or improved drugs, diagnostics, and vaccines. Dr. Hotez is a Distinguished Research Professor and Walter G. Ross Professor and Chair of the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, & Tropical Medicine at the George Washington University. He serves as President of the Sabin Vaccine Institute, President of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, and Editor-in-Chief of PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases. Dr. Hotez is a leader in the study of diseases such as hookworm, schistosomiasis, Chagas disease, and leishmaniasis
